About Álvaro
The story
My name is Álvaro Baltanás Meliveo and I am a pianist from Málaga. Actually, music came to me from my mother’s side. In her home there were instruments, opera at all times and a beautiful grand piano at which I would sit for hours just touching the keys and making some mysterious noises that captivated me. That piano ended up in my home and that’s when I started going to the conservatory. My first teacher, Ana María Silva, gave me the fundamentals of piano technique, and she prepared me for the quality leap that was awaiting me in my Bachelor’s years.

In Badajoz I had the privilege to study with Ángel Sanzo, one of the best Spanish pianists and pedagogues. It was then that my interest in the piano began to materialize into passion. It was a very special time, where I met some friends that will last a lifetime. My musician fellows and me talked about music and philosophy all the time, we studied and practiced non-stop, and we shared countless great moments. During these years I began to give my first piano recitals as a soloist, to participate in national competitions and to win the first prizes…
2014-2018
Master's Degree
HMT Leipzig
When my time in Badajoz came to an end, I had already become a Pianist. I had the conviction that I wanted to keep learning in Germany, where Classical Music always played a crucial role in its society. I decided I wanted to go to Leipzig, probably the city with the greatest musical History of the country. Figures like Bach, Wagner, Schumann or Mendelssohn left their footprint, their essence, in that city as they lived and worked there. At the Hochschule für Musik und Theater “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” I met and collaborated with great musicians in different important halls of the country and my artistic horizon expanded thanks to the most diverse perspectives on music and piano playing I observed in all my international experience.

During the Leipzig years I met what would become one of the greatest piano influences of my life, Eliso Virsaladze, with whom I studied at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, in Florence, another great city full of art and history. Alternating her lessons with my studies in Germany, I was able to receive the most formidable advices from the last exponent of the legendary generation of Russian pianists of the 20th century, which left an indelible mark on my way of thinking about the piano and music making.

HfMT Hamburg
I spent my last years of studies in wonderful Hamburg, full of life and music, where I studied with Professor Stepan Simonian. My pedagogic carrer saw some of its best years as well as I became piano teacher of the University for four years, something that gave me new perspectives into piano teaching and learning. Additionally, I had the opportunity to play with the Symphony Orchestra of this city and to perform in its best halls. Hamburg was also the city where I met the person who would become the love of my life and with whom I formed a chamber music duo: the flutist Begüm Ipekliogullari.
Now, after 14 years traveling around the world, having met the greatest artists, teachers and friends, and having played in some of the best venues in Europe, I continue my path in Germany, full of new perspectives and projects thanks to these intense years of learning.
